![]() What sort of people come to Poppies? Well, all sorts. But if you could describe the "average" Poppies' guest, they would not just be young at heart, but also fashionable of mind. They would appreciate, actually demand the highest quality & standards, yet baulk at pomposity. They would be both demanding and discerning, yet realise their own enjoyment and that of those around them, comes from contributing not just money. They want the very best beach in Samui, which Chaweng most definitely is after all. They probably will want to spend quite a bit of time out of the hotel and in town, searching out the (other) best restaurants and shopping bargains. Yet they really, really do not want the stereotypical Chaweng beach hotel with lager menus and standard design rooms with showers that trickle rather than pour. That's who! ![]() Poppies are to be congratulated on their grounds and cottages / suites design & layout. First, they resisted the temptation to adopt the standard formula of straight pathways. By orientating the rooms carefully and using a meandering path theme, they have created privacy for guests who are in their rooms / on their patios, and interesting walkways for those who aren't! The use of teak bridges, streams and outdoor summer type houses / bales, creates a quality village like feel to the whole place. Then, when you come to the massage sala and have (genuinely) one of the best stress / tension massages you will ever have (due to a combination of considerable staff experience / expertise, quality oils, direct sea breezes, privacy and surroundings). And then there is the pool. And what a pool! Freeform of course, with boulders built in to give it that unique Poppies appeal. But whether you spend your time around the pool or just down on those really fine white sands, you will also appreciate the range and service offered by Poppies beach / pool side bar (for sure!). ![]() Last, but most definately not least, comes Poppies Restaurant. With possibly the most extensive, and probably the most imaginative menu on Samui. The wine list is exceptionally good and varied too. The food here is cooked to perfection, with most emphasis going on fresh seafood and haute cuisine traditional Thai dishes. However, despite the recognised quality and ambience of this restaurant, which is open to non-guests as well, the food is remarkably inexpensive. Also, and I hope Poppies management will forgive me for this, it is also an excellent place to people watch (and some of them are very beautiful people indeed). Why? because many discerning young(ish) visitors to Samui, who made the mistake of reserving elsewhere, still come to Poppies Restaurant at least once. So, if you like to watch the "world" go around, yet prefer it to come to you. Don't book anywhere else and eat in every day / evening. You will be impressed in more than one way! ![]() |
